Spring Hill, TN Industry Growth
through GM Saturn Plant

In 1990, the arrival of the GM Saturn Plant turned the primarily agricultural town to one of manufacturing and the influx of new people changed the small, rural town into a growing city. The Saturn Plant became an anchor to Spring Hill’s economy. In 2007-2009, at the onset of the US recession, GM shifted some of the manufacturing products to other facilities and Spring Hill felt the effects as most of the plant sat dormant for years.

In 2015, GM announced the reopening of the entire plant, bringing jobs and breathing life back into the city. The town was revived and once again, began to grow and expand rapidly.

Spring Hill Manufacturing is the largest GM facility in North America.  The manufacturing facility sits on 2,100 acres with 900 of those acres dedicated to farming. An additional 100 acres are dedicated to a Wildlife habit, inhibiting wetland and native grasses. GM Spring Hill’s wildlife area has received Gold recognition and certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC).

GM IN THE NEWS

In January 2019, GM invested $22 million at its Spring Hill, Tennessee manufacturing complex enabling the engine plant to build 6.2L V-8 engines with GM’s advanced Dynamic Fuel Management technology. As part of its bigger picture and future planning, GM has slowed production and closed plants in other states, but this is not the case for GM Spring Hill. Continued growth is projected as GM narrows its focus to producing a handful of high demand vehicles honing new technology and advanced safety features.   The newest “baby” on the block is the Cadillac Crossover which is slated to be available by spring 2019. GM employs more than 3,000 residents and as production in Spring Hill continues to grow, more and more GM families are relocating to Spring Hill and the surrounding areas and happy to be part of a thriving company and community

Spring Hill Manufacturing has won the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry six times. This challenge is a global call-to-action for industrial sites to reduce their energy intensity by 10 percent within 5 years. Just a few fun facts about GM Spring Hill:
